Welcome to Mumability!
After ten years providing perinatal counselling to clients in the public mental health system, I have decided to branch out and start my own private practice. I am passionate about helping women optimise wellbeing and satisfaction with being a mum.
I use an eclectic approach combining my background as an occupational therapist, extensive work in the public mental health system, personal experience of being a mum and working with hundreds of mothers and babies.
I like working with this group of women as they show remarkable courage to share the challenges that motherhood has risen for them. They are help seeking to make change, which makes the work very satisfying.
For each person the journey to motherhood is different and has its own unique set of highs and lows. Common triggers are having an unplanned pregnancy, birth trauma, partner conflict, financial stress, isolation and unresolved family of origin issues to name a few. For some women coming for a single session is enough to help them learn about themselves and change perspective. For others the therapeutic space is used to work through the past and build coping skills. Validation of not feeling like the only one and linking with resources leads to change. Look out for my regular blogs where I share strategies and anecdotes from my practice and help reduce stigma attached to talking to someone about postnatal issues.
