Moving from Surviving to Thriving

Moving from Surviving to Thriving

As COVID 19 restrictions are eased perhaps you have mixed feelings about venturing out and resuming your usual routine. How has the isolation impacted on being a parent?  Have you struggled to cope not knowing when it will end?

A useful skill to use when making difficult decisions is to complete a decision balance chart looking at the PROS and CONS.

Let’s look at an example of choosing to attend a public food venue for a meal or not, when they open again on 1st June.

Choose to go to a café

PROS -Enjoy a meal, experience a change of scenery, no clean up, connect with an old habit

CONS - Fear getting sick, feel rushed by time limits on seating, have to get temperature checked

Choose to order take away instead

PROS - Don’t have to cook, enjoy a meal at home, no need to dress up, feel safe

CONS - Feel stuck at home, feel bad for cafes struggling, frustrated by the limits

It is easier choose to what to do by making sense of the potential consequences of your action. Perhaps you are weighing up a return to child care, returning to work, visiting relatives or budget priorities. All these scenarios can be reviewed using a decision balance chart.

There are many other useful skills I’ll be exploring each week on how to combat strong emotions that show up during transitions.

If you are feeling particularly stressed out or noticed a drop in your mood recently , I am offering a telehealth SPECIAL of 6 bulk billed sessions ( need a current mental health care plan) through a video conferencing platform . Please call me to discuss what is happening for you.
