Delegate Your Way To Calm

Delegate Your Way To Calm

Today I did something I swore I’d never do. I thought I have time… there is the weekend and I can do a little each day. Why pay for something you can do yourself?

It is silly really when I think about how long it has taken to delegate cleaning to a professional.

A simple time use analysis justifies the case and I have suggested this strategy to many mums over the years.

Well let’s just say there is no going back.

It was so good to arrive home to a sparkling clean home. In my upcoming book I delegate an entire chapter to time use. How we use our time and what demands we place on it, is closely tied to your sense of wellbeing.

Busy people don’t get more time. Nor do we get bonus time for feeling tired or unmotivated. Conducting a time use analysis can shed light on stress causing factors and invite you to consider what you can do and what needs to be delegated. The antidote to your sense of overwhelm lies in expecting less of yourself. Perhaps you compare yourself to others or how much you managed to squeeze in before you had children. Whatever the case may be, I invite you to cast your mind to the last time you reflected that your day was wasted or you have too much to do.

Start seeing yourself as a manager and pick something to get someone else to do. It could be asking your partner to do child care drop, ordering take away or asking someone to mind the kids. The other thing good managers do is let the unimportant stuff go. Ask yourself is the task necessary to do today or can it wait?

Children can make so much mess! But I’m yet to meet one that stands up at their 18th birthday and commends their mother for keeping the house clean. It is quality time that matters in the end. Playing, sharing a meal, a trip to the park, reading a book and so on, that get stored in the memory bank. #journeytocalm#parenting#timeuse
